Why scrollytelling is great

- [Presenter] A long, long time ago screen space was scarce. And the assumption among user experience experts was to put everything quote unquote, above the fold, right, in the immediate view of your user or the thought was, you'd risk them moving on to other content. The entire philosophy was to reduce clicks and scrolling to an absolute minimum. But even as we all accepted this as an axiomatic truth, people even then were pushing back on this. Way back in 1998, user experience expert, Jared Spool wrote, "Our research shows that fewer, longer pages may be the best approach for users." So no, it turns out users can and we'll scroll for content. And in fact, the scroll has become the way we consume content on our devices. So why would we try to create different avenues for our audiences to experience the content? The default behavior is the behavior we should leverage rather than trying to teach new behavior.
