CMM overview
- [Instructor] CMMI, or Capability Maturity Model Integration, is a process improvement model applicable to a wide range of industries. It was developed by a collaboration of industry experts at the Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute. Its latest version is CMMI v3.0, which was released in April of 2023. Please note that CMMI is a model, not a standard. It is not prescriptive. In other words, it does not tell you what should be done and who should do it, but it provides a model and guidance on achieving process maturity at your organization. For example, CMMI defines a level of process maturity in terms of whether you have documented processes. It does not tell you what your processes should be, so that is a key concept to know about CMMI. Organizations undergo appraisals to be awarded CMMI maturity levels one through five.
