Taking your product from the relatively safe and controlled environment of a lab and moving it into the real world with real customers can be unnerving. Beyond the security risks of sending software outside the bubble of your company's safe network, there are a ton of other concerns that impact how you transition from internal testing to external testing. The beta test phase of quality incorporates actual customers into your project. A big part of preparation for this project is taking the time to identify the key demographic requirements needed to fill the test with the proper candidates. Who is testing the product is essential because the feedback gathered from testers must be relevant to the product. This is why this testing is often called customer validation.
