NAS backup options
- [Instructor] Network-attached storage, also known as NAS, can be used for backup storage. And typically, it's just a bank of hard drives and it's usually RAID 0 or 5. So if you configure it as RAID 0, then you're going to get faster speed and more hard drive space. But with 5, you also get the redundancy in case one of your drives goes bad. It's network connected and uses the same type of backup as using a file share because you're actually creating a file share on the NAS device. And typically, it has its own Linux operating system. At one point, Microsoft also created a NAS operating system, but they have since abandoned that. There are some advantages to using a NAS device. It is easy to configure typically. Although some of the newer NAS devices also have some advanced features as well. It's fairly inexpensive. You can usually get them for a few hundred dollars as opposed to a SAN, which might be $10,000…
