- Algorithms can affect user experience so dramatically that it's not possible to be a PM without understanding them. Think of Netflix. The value of Netflix comes from the algorithm that recommends movies more than anything else. So if the goal of your future as a PM is to automate something that used to be manual, you will need an algorithm in order to make this a reality for your users. An algorithm is a set of guidelines. They explain to a machine how to perform a certain task. Even for us humans, we use algorithms every single day. For example, if you want to roast a chicken, a recipe for roasting a chicken is an algorithm. This means that our set of instructions would look like this. First off, you will need to prepare all the items you will need. Pots, pans, spices, the chicken, any side dishes. Then you will need to preheat the oven.
