- [Instructor] So let's talk about recording a hardware synthesizer. Now we just talked about gain staging which is really important. One decision that you have to make from the get-go when you're recording a hardware synthesizer is whether you're going to control it via MIDI or whether you're going to play it live. If you're going to play it live, then hey, Bob's your uncle go for it, record away. Make sure that you have things lined up properly after the fact and edited down we'll talk about that in a moment. But let's say for example, you want to use a MIDI sequence that you already have in there, and maybe you're not a keyboard player I'm not a keyboard player, I'm a guitar player, so I tend to do a lot of MIDI programming and then record the result.
