- Let's start by reviewing some relevant AI concepts so you can speak the common language and confidently communicate with your technical counterparts. Artificial Intelligence is an umbrella term. It is the ability of machines to mimic or exceed human intelligence. Machine learning is then a subset of AI that uses specialized software code called an algorithm to learn and improve over time. For example, a revenue forecasting algorithm learns patterns from historical sales data, and over time keeps on improving its output, that is demand forecasts. This is also known as predictive analytics. As algorithms become more complex, we enter into the realm of deep learning, which is a subset within machine learning.
