In cybersecurity, it's important to understand what you have, so you know what to protect. The identify function includes three categories, asset management, risk assessment, and improvement. We're going to start with asset management to help us understand what we have. Regardless of what sector you work in, it's important to know what enables your business to function. From hardware, to software, to applications, to people, or even the data you process, you need to have a handle on what you have and how important it's to your business. When you think about managing assets, a helpful example could be to think about a big box store. Think about all the different types of merchandise on the shelves.
