Empathy
- [Instructor] Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. We must understand how people feel just as we must understand what they need, what they expect, and how they behave. When we are able to see from another person's perspective, to put ourselves in their shoes, we're better able to design products that meet their needs in meaningful and enjoyable ways. We cannot assume that people will use a product and do things the same way we as designers and developers would. We are very close to the product. We understand the complexity of the system model. We have access to details and processes that other people never see or hear. We know the business requirements and goals, and we're deeply familiar with our own experiences with existing and similar products. It is easy to fall into the trap of designing for ourselves, but having empathy for the people who need and use the products helps…
