- [Instructor] Too often, sound has been an afterthought and used poorly or for the wrong reasons so that it distracts or even annoys people, such as auto-playing media that disrupts everyone nearby. But sound can enhance the experience if it is used effectively to compliment the content and provide meaningful information. In the physical world, sound accompanies nearly all of our actions; doors closing, coins jangling, latches catching and dishes clinking. And it provides many signals; alarm clocks and seatbelt reminders. (car beeping) Other than streaming media, our digital experiences are remarkably quiet, but sounds can be crafted to effectively enhance many products. We can think of sound as serving three purposes: It can attract and guide a person's attention and let them know that a task or action has been completed, something is available and ready, or that their input and interaction is necessary.
