More than just a couple of documents

- At their heart, the style guide and design system are documents that layout out how the stuff you create should look and behave. They shouldn't sound too much like a rule book, but they do have to be prescriptive in order to clearly state what is and isn't acceptable. Everything will need to be documented, from the broad company philosophies that guide communications through to the behavior and layout of the smallest components of an interface widget. Sometimes that documentation is descriptive text and images. Sometimes, it's in the form of code, but there's more to having a successful style guide and design system than just creating a document. You also need processes that describe how and when the documents are used. People have to know the documents exist, and they need to want to use them in order for them to become the standard.
