- [Instructor] Windows Firewall is often the first line of defense put into place to protect a computer from outside attacks. Windows Firewall provides a shield that prevents the entry and exit of unwelcome traffic, while allowing traffic that is approved to have access. Windows Firewall does this by carefully inspecting data packets that try to move into and out of the network. If those data packets match approved rules, they're allowed to pass. And if not, they're rejected. You can see the most basic settings in the Windows Defender Firewall window. To open this simply search for firewall from the task bar and select it in the results. This window shows the status of the Windows Firewall and lets you view the network profile that's in use. You can also turn on or off the firewall. As noted in a previous movie, there's also the option to allow an app or feature through the firewall and to restore defaults if you make a lot of changes and you want to put things right again.
