🌍 Stay tuned for ACHIEVE at ECPR General Conference 2025 in Thessaloniki! 🇬🇷 Our members will be contributing to three key panels focused on Strengthening Integrity of Voluntary Climate Action in Turbulent Times 🔹 Panel 1: Expanding the Boundaries of Voluntary Climate Action: Justice, Legitimacy, and Market Integrity. Voluntary climate action has evolved into a key pillar of global climate governance, complementing state-led initiatives and mandatory policies. However, questions remain about the legitimacy, equity, and environmental integrity of these initiatives. This panel explores critical dimensions shaping the credibility and effectiveness of voluntary climate action, including the governance of carbon pricing mechanisms, the role of indigenous and vulnerable communities, and the cross-border justice implications of non-state climate efforts. Contributions will also assess the integration of nature-based solutions under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and challenge the prevailing focus on net-zero targets by proposing a more holistic framework for integrity. By examining the interactions between public and private governance, the distributional impacts of voluntary action, and evolving international standards, this panel aims to provide fresh perspectives on strengthening the legitimacy, accountability, and justice of voluntary climate efforts in a fragmented global landscape. 🔹 Panel 2: Achieving Higher Accountability, Credibility and Integrity in Voluntary Climate Action We'll explore the foundations of integrity in voluntary climate action—discussing evolving accountability frameworks, transparency challenges, and the role of voluntary carbon markets in climate credibility. Key focus: how non-state actors can lead the way in preventing greenwashing and setting high standards. 🔹 Panel 3: Governance and Policies to Strengthen Voluntary Climate Action This session will address the critical role of governance at international, EU, and subnational levels. We'll highlight how strong policies and multi-level collaboration can empower local and non-state actors to drive credible and resilient climate efforts. 📝 Stay tuned for updates, key takeaways, and commentary from our ACHIEVE team Sander Chan, Lauri Peterson, Saskia Straub & Nabila Putri Salsabila! #Sustainability #horizoneurope #voluntaryclimateaction #netzero #highintegrity Radboud University NewClimate Institute PBL Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving Oeko-Institut E3-Modelling Energy-Economy-Environment University of Eastern Finland CATIE Oficial Stockholm University HOLISTIC WWF Colombia CDP,Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford
