Reflecting back on the summer of 2025, I'm honored to have driven an initiative representing a significant milestone for the analytics profession—and for the people driving it forward. This summer, our team at INFORMS launched the CAP-Essentials (CAP-E) certification. It fills a gap we heard about again and again—from educators, hiring managers, analytics leaders, and practitioners across industries: The need for a credential that validates strategic thinking, not just technical skills, at the start of someone’s analytics career. CAP-E is: ✔️ Focused on the ability to connect data to decisions ✔️ Built on the same rigorous framework as our flagship CAP-X credential ✔️ Shaped with input from data and analytics experts across sectors We also launched a free course on Business Problem Framing (a critical step that is often overlooked in analytics initiatives), which is already getting interest from government and military analysts and corporate teams, including Amazon and Microsoft.
