Boards of Directors & Nature Risks and Opps As a non-executive board member, I am always attentive to new guidance on how to oversee nature and climate matters to protect business' value and ensure its longevity. The recent Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)'s guide, "Asking Better Questions on Nature", is, undoubtedly, a great tool for board and committee's members to fulfill their fiduciary duty towards material nature risks and opportunities. Throughout my career, I have advocated that nature risks and opportunities must be incorporated into governance, strategy and risk management. The guide makes it clear that nature is a material driver of business continuity and financial performance. From freshwater to pollinators, ecosystem services underpin core business activities across sectors. Yet, nature loss - accelerating faster than ever - poses significant operational, financial, and reputational risks, compounded by growing regulatory scrutiny and investor demands. Board and committee's nature strategic lens entails key questions: 🧩 How does nature underpin operations and supply chains? 🧩 What dependencies and impacts create material risks and new opportunities? 🧩 How can organizational fluency be built and embed nature into capital allocation and decision-making frameworks? In Brazil, boards, committee members and C-Levels should adapt their fiduciary practices asap. Call to Action within directors' duties: ➡️ Are we supporting executives to enlarge risk and opportunity analysis beyond the climate-centric view? ➡️ Are we confident that our oversight is aligned with the dynamic expectations around nature? Nature-related issues demand more than compliance - they call for integrated, strategic action that unlocks both risk mitigation and business opportunity. Let us ask better questions (and demand better answers). Thanks Tony Goldner for the amazing work performed by TNFD so far! Ana Luci Grizzi Love the questions you’re asking here...nature touches everything we do. Makes me think about how supply chains often overlook dependencies like water. Curious—do you see businesses in Brazil shifting their priorities yet? If I can help with anything sustainability-related, let me know.
Thanks for sharing, Ana Luci
