Grit and empathy. If you want to work at The Mahoney Group, you need these two traits. On last week’s episode of the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales podcast, Guffy Wright shared what he looks for when hiring producers. Spoiler alert: it’s not just about saying you’re a hard worker or claiming you’re competitive. Everyone says that. Most don’t back it up. Guffy broke it down perfectly: grit is the ability to get back up every time you’re knocked down, and empathy is the ability to truly connect with others. When you combine those two traits, you’re unstoppable. I’ll be honest—I didn’t have that grit early in my insurance career. I had it as a pro baseball player, but when it came to selling insurance? Not so much. I didn’t love it at first, and it showed. But here’s the thing: grit is a muscle you can build. And when you pair it with consistency, you create a massive differentiator in this industry. If you missed last week’s episode, go check it out. You can find it on Apple, Spotify, and the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales podcast. Guffy and I dive deep into what it takes to succeed in today’s market and why grit and empathy are non-negotiables. A big shout out to our sponsor, True Captive Insurance, for continuing to make these episodes possible.

Insurance sales leaders, please read this... If your training for unvalidated producers still ONLY revolves around cold calls and emails, you're setting them up for failure. Here’s the truth: cold outreach alone isn’t cutting it anymore. Producers today need to learn how to build warm outreach strategies and, more importantly, how to create brand awareness. Why? 👉 Because prospects don’t buy from logos—they buy from people they see, know, and learn from. If you’re not teaching your producers how to use their time to build a personal brand, winning will be hard. In this week’s episode of the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales podcast, I’m sharing time management hacks that will help your producers scale their sales by working smarter, not harder. It’s time to evolve. The insurance sales game has changed, and your training needs to change with it. Catch the episode on Apple, Spotify, or the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales YouTube channel. And a big shoutout to our sponsor, True Captive Insurance, for supporting this mission to transform insurance sales.

Stop teaching new dogs old tricks. New insurance producers need training. But teaching them tactics that worked 30 years ago is setting them up for failure. How they spend their time prospecting will determine how quickly they become profitable. Cold outreach CANNOT be their only trick. In last week’s Accelerate Your Insurance Sales podcast episode, I covered how producers at all levels can use time management to scale their sales faster than ever before. Make sure to go tune into the episode on Apple, Spotify, or the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales YouTube channel. This episode is sponsored by True Captive Insurance.

Advisors’ personal networks are powerful. But they’re not endless. Too often, brilliant advisors struggle simply because they’ve exhausted their pool of leads. Why let that talent go to waste? This is where professional, advisor-independent lead generation becomes critical. It’s not just about “getting leads”. It’s about understanding sources, categories, pricing, conversion, and the processes that turn leads into lasting client relationships. That’s exactly what Nikolaus Sühr and I discuss: how to move beyond networks and rethink the future of insurance sales. A conversation well worth having. #Insurance #InsuranceSales #LeadGeneration #SalesGrowth #InsuranceAdvisors #Distribution #BusinessGrowth #CustomerAcquisition
⚠️ Insurance sales are drying up when agents exhaust their personal networks. The only way forward? Mastering lead generation from external sources, and optimising every step of the journey from first contact to closing the deal. In this episode of the Insurance Couch Podcast, Oliver Lang and I talk about why most insurance organisations struggle with lead generation, everything it needs for customer acquisition, from basic contact data to booked appointments, the costs, and challenges of acquiring leads, and how salesforces must adapt their skills and processes to convert leads outside their own networks. This episode is part 1/3 of our discussion around leads. Here are the key takeaways from this episode: 1️⃣ The only way to grow the number of customers for many insurers and brokers is to acquire leads from outside their agents’ networks. 2️⃣ There are many lead categories ranging from a name with contact details to fixed appointments for an insurance consultation. 3️⃣ Leads can come from many sources – Google or Facebook are just two of them. 4️⃣ Leads are valuable. You must treat them with great respect and care. 5️⃣ It is critical that you optimise the end-to-end journey from lead source to closing the deal and cross-selling additional products - not just parts of that journey. FACT: Independent insurance agencies can't compete with the "big boys" on size. However, they can create leverage when they join forces with other like-minded agencies. My guest this week on the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales Podcast is Pamela (Zablocki) Schlotzhauer. Pam is the Director of Partner Recruitment at United Benefit Advisors® (UBA). In the episode, Pam shares how UBA is helping independent agencies stay independent by: 👉 Leveraging collective buying power. 👉 Negotiating preferred partner programs. 👉 Rolling out game-changing tools like AI. I used to be a UBA member so I understand the power of this community. Scaling your agency isn't built on QUANTITY, it's built on QUALITY, and surrounding yourself with like-minded professionals is key. Make sure to check out the episode on Apple, Spotify, or the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales YouTube channel. Thank you to True Captive Insurance for making these conversations possible!

If your mindset is focused on lack, a lack of opportunity is what you'll get. The most successful insurance advisors have an abundant mindset. They know there's enough to go around. This week I'm joined by Jessica Brooks Woods CEO, MPM, PHR on the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales podcast. One of the big topics we cover is broker collaboration. The best are willing to collaborate, even if it's with the competition. Why? They know there's enough to go around for everyone. More importantly, they know collaboration is imperative if we're going to move the industry forward in the right direction. Make sure to tune into my conversation with Jessica on Apple, Spotify, or by going to the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales Podcast YouTube channel. The episode is sponsored by True Captive Insurance.

📞 Why You Should Never Talk to the Insurance Company Without a Lawyer After a truck crash, your first call might be from the insurance company. They’ll sound polite, sympathetic, and “just here to help.” But make no mistake — they’re trained to protect their company, not you. Here’s what really happens when you talk to them without an attorney: 🗣️ Every word is recorded When you give a “statement,” they’re not gathering facts — they’re gathering ammunition. A small detail, a guess about speed, or even saying “I’m feeling better” can be twisted to make your injuries seem minor or your memory unreliable. 🧾 They want inconsistencies The adjuster’s job is to find contradictions between your statement and other evidence. They’ll ask the same question in different ways to trip you up. Later, those little slips are used to deny or reduce your claim. 💰 They’ll rush to offer quick money They may dangle a “fast settlement” to make you feel like you’re being cared for. But that number rarely covers long-term medical care, lost wages, or future pain. Once you sign, you can’t go back. 📉 They minimize your damages Without a lawyer, it’s easy to accept the insurer’s version of what your case is “worth.” They’ll undervalue your injuries and ignore things like emotional distress, loss of enjoyment, or future surgeries. ⚖️ Why having a lawyer changes everything The moment an attorney steps in, the tone shifts. Lawyers know every tactic in the book — how to control what’s said, demand full disclosure, and ensure you’re treated fairly. Your attorney speaks for you so you don’t accidentally give the insurance company power over your case. 🚩Talking to the insurance company without a lawyer isn’t just risky — it can cost you the compensation you deserve. If you're an independent insurance agency that sells employee benefits, listen in. Last week, I had the privilege of sitting down with Pamela (Zablocki) Schlotzhauer with United Benefit Advisors® (UBA) to talk about how independent agencies can thrive in today’s competitive market. For 23 years, UBA has been empowering independent agencies to grow, collaborate, and leverage intellectual capital. Their unique model allows partners to own UBA, creating a truly collaborative environment where agencies learn from one another and scale beyond what they could achieve alone. Pam shared how UBA helps independent firms project a national presence while maintaining their local roots. If you’re an independent agency looking to grow, learn, and compete with the big players, this episode is a must-listen. Check it out on Apple, Spotify, or the Accelerate Your Insurance Sales Podcast YouTube channel. A huge thank you to our podcast sponsor, True Captive Insurance, for continuing to support our mission.
