【The Spreading Profile for an Emerging Infectious Disease and Its Resemblance to the KdV Solution】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gJcjQzzj (Authored by Zach Fendler and Valipuram S. Manoranjan, from Washington State University, USA.) The #SIR_model describes the transmission of infectious diseases between susceptible and infected individuals and provides the basic framework for almost all subsequent epidemic models. This work gains an understanding of the SIR model for novel or emerging infectious diseases by deriving time-dependent solutions for the spreading profiles using a #second_order_approximation and notices that a solution that resembles the well-known soliton solution of the Korteweg-de Vries (#KdV) equation is obtained. #Nonlinear_PDE #Solitary_Wave

#DidYouKnow? 60% of all human infectious diseases are zoonotic in origin. Examples of zoonoses include Rift Valley Fever, MERS-CoV & some strains of #AvianInfluenza. But what exactly are zoonotic diseases and how should we address them?⤵️ https://lnkd.in/ggYPjtUC

I've been learning quite a bit about zoonotic diseases over the past few months, in particular #avianinfluenza. A shocking statistic is that 75% of emerging and re-emerging human diseases are zoonotic. This is why we should all be concerned about preventing, detecting, and responding to zoonoses. Now, more than ever, a coordinated, collaborative approach is needed across all sectors and disciplines responsible for health. It is the only way that we will be able to effectively address shared threats at the human-animal-environment interface.

Infectious disease outbreaks require innovative, agile and standardized preparedness and response. Recently, WHO and partners, with support from the EU in Emergencies, conducted a simulation exercise with 75 emergency responders in Uganda using a modular, reusable treatment facility to deliver high-quality clinical care within hours of set up, helping to rapidly curb infections and save lives.
