🌟 We're hiring to teach machines what we're still discovering ourselves 🔍 Here’s where I’m at with AI right now 🔮 as a loosely held opinion, but with growing conviction: AGI is years away, and the next phase isn’t about one breakthrough model or architecture. It’s about getting really good at mixing and matching what we already have: generative AI for creativity 🧠 , discriminative AI for precision 🎯 , and reinforcement learning 🤖 as the glue (or the proverbial cherry on the cake 🍰 ) that helps them work together in workflows. At Upwork, we’re betting that the future looks like AI systems that can reason through complex decisions like matching the right freelancer to the right project, or helping our AI assistant Uma give better guidance. Not through brute force, but through learning what works💡 in real marketplace scenarios. Here’s what we’re looking for: Someone with RL know-how who can take these loosely held ideas and help us figure out what actually works 🧩. Someone who’s comfortable with Monte Carlo Tree Search, policy networks, and all the technical depth but who also gets excited about practical applications 🛠️ in a real business.
