"Before Words, There Are Tokens" After building AI apps, I learned this: tokenization can make or break your LLM integration. The model doesn’t see your input as words — it sees tokens. Before generating a response, your prompt is split into these pieces. This subtle step affects cost, speed, and how well your app understands users. Get it wrong, and expect surprises—higher bills, odd behavior, or confusing outputs. In my latest post, I explain the basics of tokenization and why it matters when building AI applications. The illusion of AI... A couple of days ago, we received a lead to build a Mobile App similar to Uber. As a IT Services company, we broke down the work into Epics, and User Stories, agreed on the scope with the potential client. The client was super happy with our understanding of the various aspects of building the app and appreciated the details that we were un-earthing for them. We then estimated the effort, looked at how we can optimize the same with various AI tools, and provided the estimate to the prospect. Almost instantaneously his reply was - "But, AI can do this work in less than a week, and it tells me that the total cost would be less than $500, why are you quoting me this number ????" This made me think, with all the social media posts highlighting the benefits of AI, people do not appreciate that you still need a human to make decisions on how the app would be designed, built, tested and deployed. I'm sure, sooner or later AI would be able to do all these aspects, while that happens, you still need humans who can do this work with various LLMs, AI Tools, and work on how the applications work end to end. What do you think ?

More agents does not mean more value. During our stream, CTO Sumukh Avadhani compared today’s AI agents to the App Store problem: too many options can create paralysis — users stick to a few defaults, rather than unlocking the real potential. Right now, agents are at their best when focused on one task done really well. But as the tech evolves, the challenge is building systems that avoid overload while still unlocking scale. #AI #AIagents

Your AI doesn’t need more data, it needs better memory 🧠 We have all seen AI give great answers… and then completely forget the context two messages later. Tools like VectorStores and stateful orchestration (think LangGraph) are changing that. They help your AI remember user preferences, past interactions, and even unfinished tasks making it useful, not just clever. Context is king. Is your AI crowned? How are you adding memory to your AI apps? #AIEngineering #StatefulAI #VectorDB #LangGraph #AIEngineer #devscourtai

After 25 years, I've shipped ~50 apps total. Most solved someone else's problems with someone else's constraints. Maybe 2-5% generated revenue I could keep. I'm playing with building micro-services like Legos: each does one thing perfectly, then combines for complex problems. This "App Swarm" approach gives you the option to build exactly what you need when platforms force compromises. With AI, that custom micro-service becomes achievable in days. Individual contributors can now orchestrate swarms of specialized services rather than being cogs in large machines. The tools exist today. The only variable is what we choose to do with this power. #Innovation #AI #SoftwareDevelopment #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfWork #TechStrategy

Been playing around with AI more and more lately to build out app prototypes, and it’s a game changer. Before, you’d have an idea but finding the time to actually prototype it was tough. Now, with AI, you can spin up a prototype so quickly. It doesn’t need to be production ready, the goal is to validate if the idea is even worth pursuing before investing a huge amount of time. I think anyone with app ideas should at least try using AI to prototype. It makes the process so much faster. I recently posted a video on YouTube walking through the process I’ve been using. Here’s a preview of that video, check out the full video on my channel 👉 @samirmarinestrada
