Bluetools Sampling Environments: Waste Environments As part of our BLUETOOLS series on sampling environments, we’re kicking off with "waste environments". BLUETOOLS is exploring areas like the Mar Menor Lagoon in Spain, Posidonia seagrass banquettes, and contaminated sites in the UK. These “waste environments” are home to resilient microbes that have adapted to harsh conditions like pollution, heavy metals, and nutrient overload. What is BLUETOOLS doing? ✔️ Studying how microbes deal with pollution ✔️ Finding enzymes that break down waste ✔️ Discovering natural compounds that could be used in cosmetics, medicine, or cleaning up the environment By studying these environments, BLUETOOLS is discovering new possibilities for science, industry, and sustainable innovation. #BlueBioeconomy #HEU #MarineBiology #Cleantech #Microbiome

#Waste2Build Update from Taiwan At #Waste2Build, we are tackling organic waste challenges—particularly commercial surplus streams that currently lack sustainable exits beyond conventional treatment. In Taiwan, we’ve just delivered our first experimental batch of wheat roots. Traditionally, after wheat extraction, roots are soaked, decomposed, and reapplied to fields as part of the farming cycle. However, this practice often triggers algal blooms, signaling the risks of reduced biodiversity and soil imbalance. That’s why we are exploring alternative valorization pathways: • Aquaponics integration for circular nutrient cycling • Fiber upcycling into sustainable construction materials (in collaboration with local universities) And this is just the start. More agricultural fiber waste streams are already lined up for our upcoming R&D. Stay tuned for more #Waste2Build innovations—where circular design meets real-world impact. I'm thrilled to present my most recent piece, "Microbes in Composting: Nature's Recyclers" As nature's engineers, billions of microbes quietly break down organic matter and turn it into nutrient-rich compost. These microscopic recyclers are essential to: Decomposition of waste Improving soil fertility .Encouragement of sustainable farming .Closing the nutrient recycling loop This poster demonstrates how microbes are the foundation of composting, converting organic waste and kitchen scraps into nutrients that plants can use to survive. In collaboration with #IonCure 💡 Let's use microbiology to create a more sustainable, greener, and cleaner future. #Microbiology #Composting #Sustainability #WasteManagement #SoilHealth #CircularEconomy #EnvironmentalMicrobiology #GreenScience #Microbes #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #ClimateAction #NutrientRecycling #SustainableLiving #Research #Innovation #EcoFriendly

Carbon Masters co-founder Som Narayan shares how our Carbonlites plants help cities process between 30–500 tons of organic wet waste daily, converting it into Carbonlites biomethane to replace fossil fuels for restaurants and businesses. The leftover nutrient rich organic matter is converted into a carbon enriched organic manure for local farmers, creating a circular solution that cuts landfill use, lowers emissions, and restores soil health. Excited to connect with you on LinkedIn! At ECO BALANCE Ltd, our dedication to sustainability drives our mission to make a positive impact. Operating in Ireland and the UK, we specialize in providing natural and organic bacteria consortiums tailored for specific functions. We are seeking natural balance with natures tools. Our journey began with a focus on rejuvenating Lough Neagh, a 200 square mile lake troubled by suffocating blue-green algae. Through our innovative bacteria solutions, we strive to effectively combat this environmental challenge. In the realm of agriculture, we address the issue of nutrient 'run-offs,' a significant source of pollution in regions dominated by grasslands and dairy herds. By introducing our bacteria products, we not only mitigate pollution but also boost grass yields by up to 20%, reducing the need for inorganic fertilizers. Our commitment extends to industrial effluents, industrial composting, and septic tank management, where we champion eco-friendly solutions across diverse sectors. Let's collaborate towards a more sustainable future! #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #PositiveImpact

Nature’s answer to microplastics may be growing in your kitchen garden! A new study from Tarleton State University (ACS Omega) shows that natural extracts from okra and fenugreek can remove up to 90% of microplastics from ocean water, freshwater, and groundwater—outperforming synthetic polymers like polyacrylamide, but without toxic residues. By soaking the plants, extracting their sticky polysaccharides, and adding just 1g per liter of water, microplastics clump, sink, and can be easily removed. This biodegradable, eco-friendly method could be scaled using existing treatment systems, offering a greener path to cleaner water. #WaterPurification #Microplastics #EnvironmentalScience #CleanWater #SustainableSolutions #EcoFriendly #GreenTech #WaterTreatment #WaterQuality #Innovation #Okra #Fenugreek #WastewaterTreatment
