It seems every day brings a new story about how we are moving backwards on climate progress. Banning offshore wind. More barriers to wind/solar development. Canceling advanced clean energy manufacturing projects. And there are two possible responses, we either despair or dig in. I, for one, am a climate optimist. EVs are better than ICE vehicles. Wind and solar are less expensive and faster to deploy than fossil plants. We need to rapidly expand the electric grid, and the fastest, most scalable solutions are low carbon technologies. I joined Protect Our Winters' Board of Directors because I believe our outdoor community has the power to create real change. I want future generations to enjoy hikes in the North Cascades and experience glaciers and smoke-free days as I did with my family this weekend — but right now, that future is in jeopardy. POW Alliance members have been speaking up, showing up, and pushing hard for climate action. But despite our efforts, the recent budget reconciliation deal has stalled climate progress, putting public lands at risk, and weakening clean energy investments when we need them most. This is one of the most critical moments we’ve ever faced, and your support can keep the momentum going in the fight for our planet. Right now, POW Brand Alliance partner Bemis Associates is matching all gifts up to $500,000 through September 4 — helping us reach $1 million for climate action, the biggest match in POW history. Please consider donating today to double your impact and help protect clean air, clean water, and a healthy planet — while we still can. Interesting pitch, I wonder if the message could be wide than hiking in the PNW?
Thanks for the opportunity!
So cool to see the Bemis match, Benjamin Howard!
Maybe corporations people will learn that humans are part of nature.
Yes! Go Brian! Watching the glaciers, shrink, impact to our eco-system and the need for more power hungry data systems we need to continue to work for change.
So true Brian Janous. These advocay groups that preserve and advance our shared natural resources are doing great work and deserve our support
Saving winter put me on this path 20 yeas ago. Every snow bum knows "Pow" is our nirvana, our ethos. None of us can do it alone, and success isn't a straight line. Keep the faith, Brian and keep up the great work.
As a downhill skier, I much appreciate POW's work over the years. Just donated :-)
Thank you for sharing, and I know that trail when you recommended it to me a decade ago 🏔️
