The way we build is evolving, and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) are leading the change. Off-site manufacturing reduces on-site labour, ensures consistent quality, and can boost construction speed by up to 30%, cutting costs by around 25%. But it’s not just about speed or savings. Read our latest article to find out the benefits of using prefabricated concrete https://lnkd.in/eKiCH5nj #PrecastConcrete #Facades #MMC #DEPROM

Notice anything different about this concrete?? It's hard to see without a microscope...but the impact is big! After months of testing and logistics coordination, we placed our first yards of concrete with Urban Mining Industries - Pozzotive® ground glass pozzolan. By replacing 50% of the Portland cement, we cut the embodied carbon of the mix by 47%–54% per cubic yard compared to the New England average. As a signatory to USGBC California's Contractor's Commitment, Chapman Construction/Design looks for ways to reduce carbon on every project. We brought this option to the table, and the whole team helped make it happen - client, OPM, architect, structural engineer, supplier, subcontractor, and Chapman. It wasn’t easy, but definitely worth it!! Once we finish foundations, I’ll share our total embodied carbon reduction and how we pulled this off. I'm curious, who else has tried low-EC concrete or supplemental cementitious materials? What was your experience? Client: Monadnock Conservancy OPM: Michael Bruss Architect: Sheldon Pennoyer, Renee Fair, AIA, LEED AP Structural Engineer: Bensonwood Concrete Supplier: Carroll Concrete Subcontractor: Sampson Concrete CM: Chapman Construction/Design, Justin Powers, Michael Allen, Gerald Scott, and Nicholas Higginbotham.

Combining materials smartly is key to decarbonising construction. A concrete mix that blends limestone powder and GGBS can save up to 100kg of CO₂ per tonne, compared with an average CEM I mix. These blends meet performance needs while significantly cutting embodied carbon and they are now supported by the latest British standards.

Steel Backbone: A Beginner’s Guide to Its Role in Construction and Infrastructure #Steel is one of the most widely used materials in modern #construction. It is an alloy primarily made of #iron and #carbon, often mixed with other #elements such as #chromium, #nickel, and #manganese to enhance its #properties. Its journey into construction began during the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, when stronger and more reliable materials were needed for #bridges, #railways, and high-rise #buildings. https://lnkd.in/dccjJU4C
