Try new things… embrace unexpected opportunities.
For Lindsay, IT Support Technician, that meant taking her artistic side to the next level. She entered the North American Art Show at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre, and visitors loved her art. Lindsay won the People’s Choice Award!
Her piece was inspired by her hometown roots — New Orleans.
Lindsay thought, “There wouldn’t be anything better than showing my culture and where I’m from.”

Last year, I decided that I wanted
to try new things this year. Lindsay entered the City of St. Peters
Employee Appreciation Day painting competition and took second place. She felt empowered, so she
entered a painting in the North American Art Show at the Cultural
Arts Centre, and visitors loved it. Lindsay won the People's Choice Award for a piece that was inspired by her hometown roots. Being from New Orleans, I thought,
what better place that shows culture? I mean, we're a gumbo
pot of different countries and different kinds of people,
and everything there is so unique from the music to the food to how we celebrate life and death. So my painting is of the LaBranche
House in the French Quarter. It's just a very beautiful piece
of Spanish architecture. I added some concepts of Mardi Gras with the bunting on the balconies. The second line is one of the ways
that we celebrate life, death, and those actually tend to
go right past that house. Art and crafting tends
to be a release for me. It's a way that you can express your
emotions, whether they're good or bad. It's just very healing in a way. Lindsay works in our I.T.
Department as a Support Technician. Spending her days solving computer
and other related equipment problems to keep City staff working efficiently. I'm Lindsay and I'm a Difference Maker.
