“I’ve always been a person who wants to help people out.”
When a friend tells you about a job that might be the right fit for you, do you listen to their advice?
Patrick did, and now he’s helping our community as the Director of Stormwater for the City of St. Peters.
“I wasn't planning on switching jobs, but when they're like, ‘Hey, this might be a good career move for you in the future.’ ... I’ve been happy that I made the switch.”

Sometimes the right career opportunity
is right there waiting for you. You just need a push to go after it. Meet Patrick. A friend of mine
pursued me to look into this job. He's the Director of Stormwater
for the City's Water Environment Services department. I wasn't looking to change jobs. when I did, but that, you know, he was right. This is a good role for me,
and I'm happy to be here. As the saying goes:
When it rains, it pours. A gentle rain can be soothing and calming, but several inches in a short
time can be devastating. That's when you need people
who are eager to help. I've always been a person
who wants to help people out. Part of my role is to address
stormwater concerns. I get to go out, meet residents, figure out...try to determine what their issue is. If you think stormwater management
sounds like a tough job, that's because it can be. Stormwater will go where it wants. We can do our. We do our best to design solutions
as engineers when things are built. And as a City,
we have our own structure as well. But you can never outsmart Mother Nature. Water will go where it wants. Patrick's just about to complete his first year
with the City, too. And many members of his team
are new as well. Were all kind of new to the role together.
We're learning together. It makes it nice. We have a good Group Manager
that kind of gives us advice when we need it and can walk us through the history,
and it helps us grow in our roles. Is your career waiting for you and you're
finally ready to Make a Difference? Then maybe you're ready to join us. 60,000 people need you. Hi, I'm Patrick,
and I'm a Difference Maker.
