Hitachi Energy is expanding the capability for transformers in #Virginia to power future U.S. data centers. Caveat, per Steven Dickens (HyperFrame Research): “The longer-term power implications [of more data center development] for local communities are less transparent, and many areas will need significant investment in power generation infrastructure to keep up with rampant demand. The US will need to invest in natural gas, and more pertinently, nuclear, to keep up.” (Comment: these concerns may drive the resistance in some communities where data centers are planned or under construction.) https://lnkd.in/gJeNQgX9?

I was reading an article about how Xcel Energy will be raising electricity rates 9.6% this year and 3.6% next year. "'We are seeing some real red flags right now that I think indicate that any rate increase is going to be difficult for a lot of Xcel households to bear,' said Annie Levenson-Falk, executive director of the Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota." The great thing about Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) being behind the meter is that the grid will not have to be upgraded as much as when the electricity is added to the grid. Are SMRs the answer? What do you all think? #SMRs #DataCenterBoom #SmallNuclearReactors #Electricity https://lnkd.in/giQFXhDN

🚀#MISO gets 47 submissions for first #ERAS queue cycle Today, MISO released a list of submissions for the first quarterly cycle of its Expedited Resource Addition Study (ERAS) fast-track queue. Here are the quick stats: 🔷 47 projects totaling over 26,500MW 🔷 74% gas, 15% battery storage, 4% wind, 4% solar, and 3% nuclear by nameplate capacity 🔷 12 MISO states represented (only Arkansas, Kentucky, and Montana had no submissions) MISO will only study up to 68 qualifying projects total and 10 projects per quarterly cycle, selected in order of submission. As a result, it comes as little surprise that applicants rushed to the queue - the first 10 projects were submitted within 26 seconds (!!) of the queue opening. Though it’s likely future cycles will have less submissions, this result speaks to some stakeholders' concerns that ERAS could suffer from the same delay and rollover issues as DPP queues. MISO is evaluating which submissions have met requirements and will publish the list of 10 selected projects after Sep 2, 2025. The first 10 submissions included a combination of gas, storage, wind, and solar projects, and it remains to be seen if this diverse mix shakes out in the selected list. For more insights related to MISO’s reforms, please reach out to John Thomas Wood. #energy #transmission #interconnectionqueue Anne Qingyang Liu Amir Esmalian, Ph.D. William Eastwick Ina Shih-Hsuan Liao Shardul Pharande Maxwell Bassin Aurora Energy Research

#Indiana's Energy Secretary, Suzanne Jaworowski, stated that local bans on #wind, #solar and other energy projects are giving Indiana a bad reputation. It's good to see the #Hoosier State is thinking beyond #coal. With demand increasing due to general load growth and AI #datacenters, our state leaders realize that waiting for #nuclear #SMNR's or nursing an uncompetitive & aging coal generation fleet won't meet the short-term demand for more energy. The #renewableenergy industry needs to hold our State officials to account for their words....GREEN 🟢 light for #renewables development! #solarpower #domesticsolar #USmanufacturing #energysecurity #energydominance #ussolar #solarjobs #domesticcontent #beyondcoal https://lnkd.in/gZV62iXk
