It’s a wrap for Cleantech Days 2025 in Istanbul. Co-organized by UNIDO, TÜBİTAK and IOM Türkiye, with support from the Global Environment Facility, this year’s edition reflected the theme “Bridging Regions and People to Accelerate Innovation for Just Transition” and highlighted the role of inclusive innovation, finance, enabling policy and regional cooperation in scaling cleantech. Ukrainian teams also took part under the Global UNIDO Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP), showcasing solutions and expanding partnerships. 🌍 Towards a Just and Inclusive Green Transition 🌱 The latest European Commission report highlights the contributions of 55 EU-funded projects driving a fair and inclusive shift to sustainability. 🔑 Key findings: * Environmental justice & social inclusion: Many projects engaged marginalised communities and developed participatory governance models, but structural inequalities still need addressing. * Sustainable cities & urban planning: Digital tools and nature-based solutions improved resilience, yet stronger multi-level governance is needed to scale results. * Circular bioeconomy: Initiatives are closing resource loops, valorising waste, and building localised circular economies. * Energy transition & equity: Citizen-led renewable energy, crowdfunding for clean energy, and inclusive governance models are ensuring access for vulnerable communities. * Climate policy & cooperation: Projects align EU action with global sustainability goals, fostering knowledge transfer and international partnerships. 🇧🇬 Bulgaria’s contribution is notable: * As a partner in BE-Rural, Bulgaria helped design regional bioeconomy strategies to strengthen rural development. * Through BIOEASTsUP, it joined Central and Eastern European partners to advance sustainable bioeconomy pathways. * Bulgaria also participated in CROWDTHERMAL, enabling communities to co-finance geothermal energy projects. These efforts demonstrate that the green transition must not only be climate-smart, but also socially fair - ensuring no one, and no region, is left behind.

The Volta Region has signed an MoU with Shenzhen’s Belt and Road Environmental Technology Center to promote green investment, technology transfer, trade, and infrastructure opportunities under the Green Belt and Road Initiative.

Swiss Ambassador for the Environment, Felix Wertli, has opened the World Resources Forum 2025, held from 2–5 September under the theme «Shaping Resource Strategies for a Sustainable Future.» The forum brings together around 500 policymakers, scientists, industry, and civil society in Geneva to drive momentum for sustainable resource use.
