Fossil fuels will supply more than 50% of data centre power globally until 2030. With more than 85 gas-fired power facilities being developed around the world to meet AI's burgeoning demands, a rush for speedy energy access is trumping tech groups' professed enthusiasm for cutting carbon dioxide emissions. This is the AI energy paradox - because it is simultaneously being used to improve energy efficiency across industries, accelerate renewable energy integration and make power grids more resilient. Balancing the incredible advancement that AI brings, with the sheer demand for electricity it requires, will be one of the biggest challenges/opportunities for the energy and tech industries over the next decade. I'm equally excited and terrified... https://lnkd.in/eikUwyz8

According to a recent Financial Times report, several U.K. data center developers are exploring direct connections to natural gas pipelines. The reason: - Grid connection delays stretching several years, - Surging electricity demand driven by AI and cloud expansion, - Need for a reliable interim power source to keep projects on schedule. This development highlights how natural gas is being positioned as a stopgap to support digital infrastructure growth, even as long-term energy strategies prioritize renewables. For the energy market, it signals two important realities: 1️⃣ Gas continues to play a critical role in ensuring supply security. 2️⃣ Infrastructure bottlenecks can reshape demand patterns in unexpected ways. The intersection of energy security and digital growth is becoming more visible than ever.

From the Industrial Revolution to today, humanity has relied on combusting molecules — coal, oil, gas — to create energy. But that cycle is ending. We’re shifting from inefficient fossil combustion to efficient electric technologies powered by wind, solar, and batteries. As IEA’s Fatih Birol put it: “The age of oil is dead. The age of electricity has begun.” #EnergyTransition #FutureOfEnergy #FossilFuels #Electricity

Ever wonder how a wind turbine works? Just like airplane wings, wind flows over the blades, creating lift that makes them spin. Once the breeze hits about 12 km/h, the rotor turns—converting kinetic energy into electricity that powers homes, farms & businesses! #WindEnergy #WindTurbine #CleanPower #RenewableFuture

🌬️ Wind power is booming, but it lives and dies by the weather. From tornadoes that can level turbines to winter storms that ice blades solid, extreme conditions put both infrastructure and the grid at risk. The 2021 ERCOT crisis in Texas showed just how quickly weather gaps can ripple across an energy system. That’s why accurate, real-time forecasting is now at the core of wind energy. With advanced models, machine learning, and a growing sensor network, operators can protect assets, plan storm responses, and maintain grid stability—even as climate patterns shift. Weather isn’t just a factor in wind power—it’s the foundation. 📰 Published in North American Clean Energy: https://lnkd.in/gzu2s3BE #WindEnergy #RenewableEnergy #WeatherForecasting #GridReliability #EnergyTransition

🌍 The future of gas networks is hydrogen blending 🔁 Hydrogen blending - injecting hydrogen into existing natural gas networks - is swiftly emerging as a scalable, transitional solution to accelerate the hydrogen economy and reduce carbon emissions. 💡 Blending up to 20% hydrogen into the UK grid could save around 6 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, a powerful step toward net zero. At Wood, we see blending not as the final destination, but as a critical milestone on the journey to cleaner energy. From supporting National Gas with digital twin modelling to advising on infrastructure upgrades and safety systems, our experts are helping shape the UK’s future gas network. Exciting development from National Grid Ventures (NGV)! They are set to introduce the world's first commercially-deployed, 100% hydrogen-fueled linear generator at the Northport Power Plant. The innovative Mainspring linear generator harnesses power through a low-temperature, combustion-free chemical reaction, ideal for meeting peak demand requirements. During its 12-month testing phase, it will operate solely on 100% green hydrogen. The anticipated launch date for this groundbreaking technology is September 2026. #mainspring #hydrogen #lineargenerator Learn more about this groundbreaking initiative at: https://lnkd.in/gRaVrzNr

What form of electric energy is the cheapest in the US (without government subsidies)? The winner is onshore wind power followed by utility scale solar then natural gas, coal and nuclear. The results were put together by Lazard which I do not believe has reason to bias its conclusions. The visuals have interesting toggle switches to alter the baseline calculations. In NY, the political leaders had put all its eggs in the renewable energy basket with the passing of Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). We now know from sources like the NYISO (insufficient new electric generating resources against the backdrop of increasing electric loads) and the governor and others (questions of affordability) that this approach is not going to work as originally envisioned. Also, the energy future imagined by the current White House (fossil fuels and nuclear) ignores the facts on the economics of renewables. It is clear that "what's needed is a diversity of energy options that can meet the country's rising demand for electricity." #CLCPA #cheapestUSenergy #alloftheaboveapproachtoenergy https://lnkd.in/ekhMNcjD

The First Public H2 (FPH2) has officially launched a Request for Proposals to deliver hydrogen across California—both liquid and gaseous. Proposals are due by September 12, 2025. As Chairman R. Rex Parris shared, “It’s not just about trucks—it’s about accelerating hydrogen deployment.” Reliable transport is the missing link in scaling #hydrogen. By connecting producers and offtakers, California is laying the groundwork for a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
