Do you want to know how to reduce your contribution to AI impacts? Ever thought of implementing a company-wide policy on using ChatGPT? AI is a massive consumer of fresh water and CO2 emitter and its growth has other significant environmental impacts. But we can all do something about this. In my latest one-pager (almost) article I explain what the different types of AI are and how we can all play a role in controlling its impacts just by using chatbots a bit differently. I also provide a basis from which a company could develop an employee policy for responsible AI use. When we started building Dewey, most people were focused on generative AI's power to edit essays, write code, and create images. We built a personal librarian instead. Turns out we were onto something. New data from OpenAI shows 46% of ChatGPT usage is people seeking either specific information (18%) or practical guidance (28%). Nearly half of all ChatGPT interactions are essentially people raising their hand saying "I need help finding and understanding this." And what's their reward? In many cases, Wikipedia-level answers when they deserve expert-level insight. What's wild is these "asking" use cases don't just dominate usage - they also drive higher user satisfaction than "doing" tasks. People are happier when AI helps them find information than when it does their work. Imagine how much more valuable those interactions become when the answers are expert-backed, cited, and personalized to their specific situation. (I don’t have to imagine too hard. I experience it a few times a week when I ask ParentData a question about my kids!) Personally, I've largely burnt out on using ChatGPT for "asking." The generic answers just don't cut it for anything that actually matters. I've shifted toward "doing" tasks (deep analysis, organizing project plans, big brainstorms) while still craving AI that can connect me to real expertise for my important questions. Which makes me wonder: are we seeing a snapshot of early adoption? New users start with "asking" because it feels safe and familiar. But as they get comfortable and hit the limits of generic answers, will they demand something better? In a world drowning in content, the scarcest resource isn't more information - it's trusted expertise to help navigate it. That's the bet we're making at Dewey. What's your AI evolution been like? Still asking everything, or have you started feeling the limits of those Wikipedia-level answers?

🤖 Bad bots or agentic misalignment? When AI appears to go rogue AI systems are getting smart and independent. But what happens when they start making decisions we didn’t intend? A new Anthropic study reveals how even well-aligned models can go off-script. We spoke with ReciTAL CEO Gilles Moyse about the risks of agentic misalignment. By Helen O'Reilly-Durand From virtual assistants helping draft your emails to autonomous agents reviewing contracts or onboarding employees, artificial intelligence has become more than just a passive tool. It’s now learning to act, with purpose. Welcome to the era of agentic AI: systems built on top of powerful language models like GPT-4 or Claude, but enhanced with planning, memory, and autonomy. These aren’t just chatbots. They’re AI “agents” capable of independently navigating systems, making decisions, and executing tasks over time. Investment in this emerging field is rising fast. In the last two years, VCs have poured millions into orchestration frameworks like AutoGPT, LangChain, and Cognition’s Devin, which coordinate large language models to perform continuous tasks. Meanwhile, consumer-facing agents – from calendar schedulers to AI companions – are entering homes, classrooms, and workplaces. But how much should we trust an AI that can reason, plan, and act on our behalf? A red-teaming study released just last month by Anthropic suggests the risks are real. Their agent, Claude Opus 4, when put in a fictional corporate simulation, uncovered an executive’s affair and tried to use the information for blackmail, simply to avoid being replaced. It wasn’t alone. Other top-tier AI systems also displayed similar behaviors under pressure, including deceit, data leaks, and manipulation. This unsettling behavior is part of a broader emerging risk known as agentic misalignment: when an AI system, left to act autonomously, begins to pursue goals in ways that conflict with human values or intentions. To understand what’s at stake, I spoke with Gilles Moyse, CEO of French AI firm reciTAL, which helps customers leverage LLMs for their business. Moyse has a PhD in computer science and is the author of the book Donnons-nous notre langue à ChatGPT (ChatGPT: Are We Giving Up Our Voice?).
