Real-world Problem I Faced: Synchronizing Offline POS with Online System Recently, I faced a challenging situation while working on a project: We had multiple offline POS systems that needed to synchronize with the online version whenever internet connectivity was available. At first, I considered two possible solutions: Solution 1: HTTP Requests (APIs) Each POS would push and pull data to/from the online server when the internet is up. However, this approach comes with issues like conflict resolution, high network overhead, and complex error handling. Solution 2: Message Broker (Event-Driven) Each POS publishes its updates as events to a broker, and the online system (or other POS systems) consumes them once the connection is back. This approach ensures reliability, asynchronous processing, durability of messages, and better scalability. Final Decision: I went with the Message Broker approach, because it provides a more robust and scalable solution for offline/online synchronization in distributed POS systems. This experience reinforced the importance of choosing the right architecture based on system constraints and future scalability. What about you?
