Big things are happening in Texas. We're diving into ERCOT's Aggregate Distributed Energy Resource pilot project, which is scaling up to a massive 160 megawatts of capacity for energy, non-spin, and ERCOT Contingency Reserve Service. This initiative highlights how Texas is using distributed energy to boost its grid. For a quick look at this project and why it's a key part of the state's energy strategy, check out our latest "Regs in 60s" video.

“Our grid is the 2nd most reliable in the country. That matters — whether you’re a family in 110° heat or a manufacturer investing billions.” Danny Seiden joined John Hook on FOX10 Phoenix Newsmaker to talk about the new 500-mile Transwestern natural gas pipeline and what it means for Arizona: keeping energy affordable, expanding capacity, and ensuring our state can keep pace with rapid growth. 👇 WATCH

One does not simply connect Tasmania and Victoria’s electricity grids. The two grids operate at different scales, with distinct generation profiles, power system dynamics and system strength outlooks. Bringing them together securely requires rigorous planning and detailed technical studies. It’s a bit more involved than joining the ends of a 345km extension cable! We recently hosted a technical workshop with an inter-regional working group including members from TasNetworks, Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and AEMO Victoria. This is a key forum for planning and progressing the system integration studies that will ensure Marinus Link connects securely and reliably to the power systems in Tasmania and Victoria.

Thanks to Place North West for arranging an interesting session this morning on Energy and Power skilfully hosted by Dan Whelan. Thoughtful contributions and insights from a range of experts including James Johnson, Olivia White, Melissa Wilson, Mara Rastall, Gráinne Gilmore, Joe Chambers and Jennie Stein In summary from me, we are all talking about the energy trilemma but from different perspectives recognising the importance of balancing energy security (including supply chain and resilience), equity (universal and fair access) and environmental sustainability (climate change and net zero). From the economic development perspective the following would be my summary: - Delivering the country's net zero ambitions has potential to create good jobs in many places, export potential and opportunities for UK businesses. - The Government suggests an additional 400,000 jobs over the next decade or so and this would provide the equivalent of a 1% increase to the current stock of workforce jobs in the country - transformational economic change. The net zero destination is set and the journey underway, let's ensure we have a just transition.
Join us at Place North West Energy & Power 2025, where Stephen Cox will be speaking on the economic opportunities presented by a low-carbon energy future and the socio-economic impacts of new energy infrastructure. The Port of Los Angeles is pilot testing a new onshore wave energy system in a first-of-its-kind project for the US. Swedish company Eco Wave Power recently announced completion of the installation, with the site to serve as a demonstration platform for harnessing ocean waves without requiring seabed infrastructure. The company said the LA trial will inform future commercial deployments and provide a glimpse into the potential for wave power in port-adjacent industrial zones.
