For Compassus hospice patient Gerry Higginbotham, casting a line into the ocean was more than a pastime—it was a dream he quietly carried for years. Thanks to the compassion and creativity of our Fayetteville, GA, team and the generosity of the Hospice Angels Foundation, that dream became a reality. With the support of RN Case Manager Ellen Rudolph, Hospice Care Consultant Laurie Breckenridge, Business Office Manager Laynie Humphrey and Social Worker Amanda Hardeman, Gerry took a meaningful trip to Tybee Island with his daughter—creating memories, honoring his late partner and finding peace by the sea. Although he didn’t catch a fish, Gerry came home with something far greater: connection, joy and a full heart. This is what it means to "Care for who I am."
