17. Why that number ChatGPT? It’s one of my favorite numbers, but certainly not random. Yet, when you ask ChatGPT to give you a random number between 0 and 25, it will return 17 without fail. Kind of the opposite of random, don’t you think? It’s a perfect example of the promise and limitations of AI. As many of you know, I’m a big AI-enthusiast. Our team uses AI-powered tools to synthesize information, provide tailored insights, and identify signals in the noise. However, AI is not a replacement for human thinking. Sadly, I see more and more firms going with a human-out-of-the-loop approach on processes. Here’s a list of things not to outsource: -Critical thinking -Creativity -Common sense Finding the areas where AI does not perform well is as valuable as finding the areas where it performs brilliantly…and knowing which area you’re looking at is even more important! This is why we do what we do: help organizations understand how new technologies and developments will affect their business. We do this with critical thinking, creativity, and common sense. I was in Edinburgh loaded with bags, got off the bus, thinking I was close to my friends house but we weren't - it was a good 20minute walk when I went back to Copilot it then apologised for putting us on the wrong bus.
Hey David! Alot of things can be solved by giving AI the right prompt (my example): "Generate a uniformly random integer between 0 and 25" Answer: 4 In general, I also believe there are aspects best left to human creativity but just to outline alot of issues can be tackled by helping AI towards the expected answer
Erik Sanz Mali well said Erik. In this case ChatGPT needs more information. If memory serves me right and my CompSc degree finally pays out, then ChatGpt needed proper seeding 😜
Love this example because it shows how “magic” quickly turns into a pattern once you look under the hood. What feels like randomness is often just a statistical shortcut based on training data....useful in some contexts, misleading in others.
