The uncertainty surrounding US federal funding, the emergence of unethical AI solutions, and the ever-growing volume of biological data are piling pressure on core biodata resources worldwide 🌎. Just as the lights go on, there is a risk of taking such infrastructure for granted and forgetting its absolute contribution to powering the scientific endeavour. After all, intellectual progress can only be understood in the light of discoveries that have come before, and such resources ensure the continuity of scientific advancement 💡. Last week in Montreal 🇨🇦, I joined the Global Biodata Coalition Sustainability Lab to explore various strategies for addressing current funding challenges while preserving the fundamental principles of #opendata. Thanks, Guy Cochrane and team, for the invitation to join the Lab and share our experience with the Open Targets public-private model
Bright minds from diverse disciplines met today in Montreal for GBC's Sustainability Lab, sharing their insight into the challenge of developing sustainable funding for global biodata resources. Thank you to the attendees for your time and for sharing your vision.
