Dr Christian Bluth’s Post

I don't usually post about my work. But this is too important to me on a personal level to maintain my usual professional discretion: Today, the Franco-German Ministerial Council announced a joint Economic Agenda. It announces a series of joint projects in economic policy, from energy to industrial policy, from economic security to innovation. Perhaps more importantly, it also marks the beginning of a continuous process of improved and intensified bilateral cooperation in the spirit of the Franco-German friendship. For me and my colleagues working on this Economic Agenda over the last months was an extremely satisfactory project. This is a signficant step forward and it fills me with great joy to see that the Franco-German engine is springing back into action. When France and Germany pull in the same direction, Europe moves forward. https://lnkd.in/d4dwG9bj

Danke.

Europe urgently needs a solid axis between France and Germany. Unfortunately, both prime ministers lack real leadership and seem to be merely waiting to be replaced. This is today’s real weakness in Europe: artificial coalitions that do not reflect the true will of their nations. It has been a long time since we had partnerships like Schmidt–Giscard d’Estaing or Kohl–Mitterrand.

Important to see here the commitment to deep tech, to start and scale ups and the 28th regime!

Make it EU wide. It makes no sense that Germany-France is on a second track while the rest of Europe is on a third. What are/were the roadblocks? Did nobody else want in? It indicates a level of integration that we all should have…
