“… As the State continues its #recovery efforts, the #networksecurity incident continues to #impact the #availability of certain state technology systems on the #statenetwork. Some state #websites or #phonelines may be slow or briefly unavailable during recovery.” #Nevada says there is currently #noevidence that any personally identifiable information (#PII) was #compromised. At press time, no #threatactors assumed responsibility for the #attack, but ransomware against US state and local governments has historically been carried out by financially motivated criminal groups rather than state-sponsored actors. https://lnkd.in/eqMjc5Dy

NEVADA PARALYZED BY MASSIVE CYBERATTACK Nevada has been crippled by a sweeping ransomware strike that shut down public services statewide, closing DMV offices, knocking out police dispatch lines, and forcing Governor Joe Lombardo to suspend in-person services. State officials now admit personal data may have been stolen, though the extent remains unclear. Cyber experts warn smaller governments are the new prime targets for hackers, with Nevada now added to the growing list of victims. Restoring systems will take time as investigators work to fully eradicate the threat.

"For example, the EU’s defence fund, a state-owned bank in Italy and an entity belonging to Spain’s science ministry have provided funding to commercial spyware firms ranging from hundreds of thousands to more than 100 million euros.
