Breaking Down The Money & Business Behind Sports

A new version of the Olympics is coming — but this one pays million-dollar prizes, and encourages athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs. Meet James Magnussen: Once a clean-cut Australian Olympian, he now looks like this after just a few weeks of training for the Enhanced Games. The Enhanced Games are unlike anything we have ever seen. Anyone can compete — any age, any nationality. You just need to pass medical screenings before, during, and after competition. And there are no drug tests - Testosterone. HGH. EPO. Even blood transfusions. If a doctor can legally prescribe it in the US, athletes can take it. Greek Olympian Kristian Gkolomeev already claimed the first million-dollar prize after breaking the 50m freestyle world record. And he’s likely just the beginning. The biggest difference between the Enhanced Games and the Olympics is compensation. While the IOC offers global glory and little pay, the Enhanced Games are backed by billionaire tech investors like Peter Thiel, Christian Angermayer, and Balaji Srinivasan. With millions in funding, they’re offering appearance fees, $500,000 purses per event, and million-dollar bonuses for anyone who breaks a world record. So is this the future of sports, or just a publicity stunt? Today's newsletter breaks it down: https://lnkd.in/et5wjm2V #sports #sportsbiz #linkedinsports

Bad move. Sports change and evolve (in other words, stay interesting and retain eyeballs) as a result of constraints. This will eliminate the need for athletes to be innovative in how they train, prepare and compete. This is an artificial evolution that removes the need for competitors to be smart and thus eliminates the possibility of long and enduring careers, which is far more impressive than the short lived performance obtained through PED's. They might not be cheating in this league, but that does not mean it will yield better competition. If anything it dilutes it. It's no fun when it's all Goliaths and no Davids.

If you believe (and I do) that sports is important for our kids and professional sports and their heroes also have a role model function, you never ever can support an idea like this.

Gladiator….entertainment for Royalty. The ultimate thrill wil be when one of these “athletes” dies in the course of competition💪💪

It’s awesome. You can get rich, shorten your lifespan and encourage young athletes to do the same!

so dumb! Not Joe's post, the idea that there will be athletic competition that contributes to numerous health issues down the road as people put substances in their body in pursuit of fame and fortune
