https://lnkd.in/gvh5nivc Data centers are pulling power like cities. Utilities can’t outbuild this surge with steel and concrete alone. Resiliency now depends on intelligence. A.I. is the lever for forecasting volatility, predicting stress points, and automating response at scale. Without it, the grid stays reactive. With it, the grid becomes adaptive. This is no longer just an engineering problem, it is a strategic one. Utilities that embed A.I. into planning and operations will be the ones ready for a digital and decarbonized energy economy. #GridModernization #EnergyResilience #ArtificialIntelligence #EnergyAndUtilities #DigitalTransformation #Sustainability #UtilityInnovation

Here is a chance to really think twice about the future of all kinds of #MicroGrids and their impact on grids globally. It's Not Just Data Centers Driving the Train: Microgrid Future is Wide Open, Tough and on Track to Survive This 1,500-word feature seeks expert insight on the evolving role of microgrids in the energy industry, highlighting their historical roots, technological advancements, and the importance of adaptability in uncertain political and economic climates. Key Highlights Microgrids have historical roots dating back to Thomas Edison's Pearl Street Station, serving as early neighborhood power systems. The commercial and industrial sector offers significant untapped microgrid opportunities, with nearly six million U.S. buildings consuming vast amounts of energy annually. High upfront costs are a barrier, but innovative financing models like Energy as a Service (EaaS) help organizations adopt microgrids without large capital investments. Policy swings and political uncertainty impact renewable incentives, but microgrids' local and resilient nature ensures their ongoing relevance. Standardization, modular design, and comprehensive data analysis are key to reducing deployment costs and accelerating microgrid adoption... https://lnkd.in/g-Ju-zrG

Valuing Resilience in Energy: Applying Project Insights to State Policy. This session at the 20th Microgrid Innovation Forum, Sept 30-Oct 1 in Austin https://lnkd.in/gDUePuWx showcases examples of how developers are leveraging microgrids to unpack the full spectrum of resilience value streams today. Panelists will outline what a standardized “value of resilience” metric could look like, and explore the policy levers states can use to properly compensate for resilience. The lack of a standard value of resilience doesn’t reduce the importance of grid resilience -- it only makes it more difficult to make much-needed investments. Join us in Austin as we explore this issue in-depth as part of the two-day Forum on microgrid advances in North America. As distributed energy resources (DERs) scale, from rooftop solar to batteries and EV charging, traditional approaches to grid planning are no longer enough. Understanding capacity, flexibility and risk cannot be solved through aggregate numbers alone – they need to be seen on the map. Geospatial insight brings clarity. By visualising DER uptake and constraint risks spatially, system planners and investors can: 🔹 Anticipate where pressure points will emerge at the asset level, 🔹 Align investment with real-world grid conditions, 🔹 Support regulators and policymakers with transparent, evidence-based planning. This is not just a technical exercise. It is central to unlocking capital for infrastructure, accelerating electrification, and ensuring energy systems evolve with resilience.

Commentary by James Huang in his latest LinkedIn article lays it out clearly: relying solely on the status-quo resource adequacy planning process is no longer viable. Instead, a policy shift should recognize the value of flexible onsite generation and strategic grid curtailment without interruption to business operations, which could unlock new load more quickly. Regulatory appetite is growing for this approach, especially for solutions that offer flexible backup, faster commissioning, and cleaner operations. It’s time to turn regulatory signals into real-world change that can power #AI infrastructure with #resilience and #sustainability at its core. UK Power Networks launches HeatScape! The UK heat transition is accelerating – and it’s great to see leaders collaborating, as UK Power Networks, Arup, ERM and Bring Energy join forces on the HeatScape project. The aim: map where heat networks exist today, predict where they’re likely to grow, and estimate how much electricity they’ll need under different scenarios. By combining data, modelling and customer insights, HeatScape will give the sector a clearer picture of how electrified heat networks will interact with the grid – enabling smarter planning, reduced costs, and faster progress towards affordable, low-carbon heating for UK communities. What stands out most is the collaboration. By bringing together grid operators, planners and heat network experts, HeatScape shows how joined-up thinking can accelerate the UK’s heat transition. #heatnetworks #heatnetworks #netzero https://lnkd.in/eBYtg4Vf
