European Ombudsman’s Post

Why is timely EU decision making important? EU Ombudswoman Teresa Anjinho explains our inquiry into delays in the European Commission's chemical authorisation process. The implementation of European rules designed to protect people and the environment from exposure to hazardous chemicals is an issue of great importance for every citizen in the EU. Lengthy waits can have serious consequences for public health, as hazardous substances may stay on the market until a decision is made. Teresa - I do recognise and support the challenges which your European Ombudsman's office is trying at pains to address across the EU Commission in terms of the much needed regularisation & conformity within the application & renewal of licences as it relates to the vendor hazardous product manufacturing & disposal process. However, please do not neglect to give your offices additional focus towards the stringently non-compliant hazardous product supply chains outside of effective oversight where previously spurious reclassification parameters came from nowhere, under the almost cover of darkness, especially in low grade component manufacturing regions and have not surprisingly caused order non fulfilment & contractual termination agreement being issued across non standardised global supply chains without a jot of facilitative support from even our own Ombudsman's office here in Ireland.
