The city-state has benefited from its ability to connect with both the US and China, but these relations risk having a “worst of both worlds” outcome if it gets wrongly caught up in the sharpening rivalry between both superpowers, said Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on Wednesday (Sep 3). https://bt.sg/BFSn

The EU–India Strategic Relationship in Times of Geopolitical Turmoil After a turbulent summer, the EU–India relationship risks sliding into the background. Yet, this is precisely when Brussels and New Delhi must step up their cooperation. As Washington recalibrates its approach to India, and with Beijing and Moscow ready to fill the gaps, the EU and India have a unique opportunity to act together as *anchors of stability* in a shifting world order. Key takeaways from Jan Luykx’s new EGMONT - Royal Institute for International Relations Policy Brief: 🔹 Accelerate FTA negotiations to send a signal of resilience. 🔹 Move from declarations to action on security & defence cooperation. 🔹 Build mutual understanding on China and Russia. 🔹 Invest in connectivity and resilient supply chains. 🔹 Safeguard strategic autonomy in a world of binary choices. For Europe, India is more than a key market — it is a pivotal partner in the Indo-Pacific. For India, the EU is both an economic alternative and a political ally to counterbalance pressure from other great powers. 📖 Read the full policy brief here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eB-9HCey #EUIndia #Geopolitics #EgmontInstitute #IndoPacific #StrategicAutonomy

The EU and Ukraine are reviewing the #DCFTA, the core trade pillar of Ukraine’s Association Agreement with the EU. Since Russia’s invasion, temporary measures like the Autonomous Trade Measures (ATMs) provided unprecedented support for Ukraine, boosting exports and integrating the country into EU supply chains. Yet, political sensitivities in Member States made these measures unsustainable in the medium term. The DCFTA review offers a long-term solution: 🔹 Targeted liberalisation with reciprocal access for EU and Ukrainian exporters. 🔹Safeguards to protect domestic industries. 🔹Continued regulatory alignment, advancing Ukraine’s EU integration. While less generous than ATMs, the revised DCFTA balances economic benefits with political sustainability. It provides predictability for Ukraine and strengthens EU trade, reinforcing a mutually beneficial partnership. Amidst the many developments on #Ukraine this summer, this might have been largely overshadowed: the suspension of the Autonomous #Trade Measures #ATMs and the review of the #EU-Ukraine #DCFTA. If you missed it, here’s my freshly published commentary on what this review means and why it matters—especially for agri-trade, which has been heavily (and unnecessarily) politicised. As usual, thanks to Karel Lannoo for his useful review, our editor Daniel Cassidy-Deketelaere (he/him), and our editorial & comms team Martina Giani (she/her) Julien Libert for their support. For those interested in Ukraine’s agriculture, check out our Task Force on Ukraine’s #Agricultural Recovery—we’re still welcoming members until the end of the year if you’d like to contribute to shaping the ideas about Ukraine's #reconstruction in agri sector.
