California’s SB 1215 is reshaping the industry's approach to battery-embedded electronics. As other states follow, BIDS www.bidsgrp.com is built for this challenge and more. Starting January 1, 2026, consumers in California will pay a recycling fee at the point of sale on electronics with non-removable batteries. This legislation is designed to reduce fire risks, protect workers, and ensure safe, sustainable disposal. https://lnkd.in/gbjjv6_G Key compliance dates: By July 1, 2025: Manufacturers must notify retailers of covered products By October 1, 2025: CalRecycle will set the recycling fees By January 1, 2026: Fee collection and product labeling begin Why this matters and why BIDS is different: California is just the beginning. Other states are actively evaluating or implementing similar legislation focused on batteries in devices and extended producer responsibility. The direction is clear. BIDS was not built to solve a single regulation but to prepare the industry for a safer and more sustainable future. BIDS (Battery In Device Shredder) is the industry’s first commercial system engineered specifically for safe, high-throughput processing of battery-containing devices. It directly addresses two of the biggest issues in electronics recycling: fire hazards and manual disassembly constraints. For recyclers, OEMs, and ITAD providers, BIDS: •Eliminates manual battery removal for most devices •Reduces fire risk through sealed and controlled processing •Recovers valuable materials for resale •Ensures regulatory readiness through traceable battery destruction •Fits easily into existing infrastructure and operations Let’s connect Jeff Gloyd Whether you're preparing for a specific state's rollout or thinking bigger about long-term safety and compliance, BIDS is the scalable infrastructure solution the industry has been waiting for. 🔋 A New Battery Era in Europe With the EU Battery Regulation (EU 2023/1542) now in force, fully replacing the old Directive 2006/66/EC, compliance has moved from waste management to the entire battery lifecycle. Key shifts: • Extended Producer Responsibility – EU-wide take-back obligations • Financial responsibility – covering collection & battery waste management • Mandatory clear labelling and information for distributors and consumers If your organization is selling, reusing, or recycling batteries in the EU, now is the time to ensure your compliance strategy is also a competitive strategy. ♻️ At Circu Li-ion, we are already helping customers stay ahead of these new obligations with certified dismantling, traceability, and circular recovery solutions. ♻️ What happens if a recycler goes bankrupt? Or if a smelter doesn’t pay — and fails to provide the confirmation of recycling? These aren’t just “what if” scenarios. They’re real risks for the entire market, because without proper documentation, producers and importers cannot meet their legal obligations under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act. That’s why Electrorecycling and Polska Korporaca Recyklingu created E-Waste Recycling Organizacja Odzysku Sprzętu Elektrycznego i Elektronicznego S.A. an organization that guarantees the collection and proper processing of electrical and electronic equipment across the Polish market. ✅ 🎥 In my latest video, I talk about why this is so important for the stability of the recycling system. 👉 I invite you to watch, share your thoughts, and join the discussion. If your company is looking for a reliable partner in e-waste management, let’s connect and explore how we can work together. #WasteManagement #Collaboration #Partnership #Innovation #BusinessGrowth #ReliablePartner #FutureOfRecycling #GreenEconomy #ResourceRecovery #SustainableDevelopment #Recycling #EWaste #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Collaboration #ESG

Key practical implications include: 🪫 𝐄𝐏𝐑 𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 kick in: producers must register and fund #collection, #recycling, and #treatment in each Member State. 🪫 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 and sellers are required to accept #waste batteries 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞. 🪫 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 now mandatory (e.g., portable, industrial, EV batteries). 🪫 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 must be reported using the new EU-wide calculation methods. 🪫 Producers must supply 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 on battery composition and safe handling. Omnibus IV update: On 18 July 2025, the EU Council adopted a “stop-the-clock” amendment postponing the due diligence obligations (Chapter VII) from 18 August 2025 to 18 August 2027. The European Commission must publish due diligence guidelines by 18 August 2026. This delay does not affect the immediate application of Chapter VIII or other active provisions.

E-waste is more than just discarded electronics—it’s a hazardous challenge. A single computer can contain over 1,000 toxic materials, including lead, mercury, and arsenic. When improperly discarded, these substances contaminate soil and groundwater, creating long-term environmental and public health risks. Proper e-waste recycling ensures harmful elements are safely removed while valuable materials like copper, gold, and silver are recovered for reuse. This process supports circular economy goals, meets regulatory compliance, and demonstrates environmental responsibility. As e-waste volumes continue to rise globally, implementing certified recycling practices is no longer optional—it’s essential for sustainable operations. Learn more: Azscrap.com
