What's one skill that changed your career trajectory, and why? How do you think other professionals can master this skill? I was in a podcast when the host asked me, which is the one skill that changed your career trajectory. I could not think of a skill but that reminded me of a person who changed my career trajectory. It was my earlier boss “Late Amit Dikshit”. He gave me challenging assignments and a lot of freedom. I loved working with him. Then I started thinking, I realised he was like Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid. He taught me skills without me realising that I am learning them. I figured out that there were two key skills which changed the pace of my career. First one was attention to detail. Everything we did together, we analysed it to the minutest details to understand how things work. Second skill was doing things using innovative ways. He pushed me hard in 1990s to think outside the box. I find that changed the whole perspective for me. Both these skills are complimentary and have always been on my side throughout my career. They helped me grow and expand my horizons. These are soft skills. It is easy to master them. You can start practicing them by asking yourself that the job you are doing, can it be done more efficiently? Once you start thinking this way, you will have to study your job in detail to make the change. You do this a few times, you will see the mindset shift in your functioning. You will start behaving differently. For sure it will help you in these turbulent times. You see how this skills of going into details helped me find answer to the podcast question. However, if she asks me again, I will still say Amit Dikshit. I still miss him. #CriticalSkills #HR
What a heartfelt tribute! The right mentor not only teaches skills but shapes how we see challenges. Attention to detail and innovative thinking are true game-changers, thanks for sharing this inspiring story.
What an inspiring start to the week! In Eastern traditions, there has always been a strong emphasis on having a guru to guide us, whether the journey is outward in the world or inward within ourselves :)
Love the reflection — but here’s the thing: in today’s noisy world, even attention to detail needs a bold voice. That’s why we believe learning how to present those insights is just as critical as having them. Harjeet Khanduja
This is such a meaningful reflection. The ability to internalize soft skills like attention to detail and innovative problem-solving often marks the difference between steady progress and accelerated leadership growth. What stands out here is how these qualities were not taught through instruction but through real experiences that demanded thought, precision, and curiosity. In our conversations with mid to senior professionals, we often observe that those who consciously build these habits early are the ones who drive lasting business outcomes later. At Crescendo Global, we continue to explore these patterns and how they influence hiring decisions across dynamic industries. Thank you for sharing a story that captures both personal growth and professional wisdom so powerfully. https://www.linkedin.com/company/crescendo-global
