Building AI Autofill at Clarify: The Hard Part Isn't the AI

After months deep in the trenches building AI Autofill at Clarify, here's some things I've learned: The hardest part isn't the AI - it's still building a great product. AI is just 300 lines out of 10,000 total lines of code. What makes AI features tricky: --> Non-deterministic behavior (your cat might become a dog 1% of the time) --> Need for constant monitoring and guardrails --> User feedback loops become critical --> UX complexity increases significantly But here's what hasn't changed: you still need solid product thinking, great user experience, and reliable infrastructure. AI is just one small component that acts as a reasoning layer. The lesson? Don't get caught up in AI hype if you don’t need to. Focus on solving real user problems first, then sprinkle in AI where it actually adds value. Sometimes a simple heuristic beats a complex AI model. Always ask: "Do I really need AI for this, or can I solve it with good old-fashioned code?" What's your experience building AI-powered features? Any surprises? p.s. AI Autofill is available in early access for Clarify customers.
