🌊 Huge congratulations to our incredible research team Dimitris Marinakis Efsevia Fragkou Institute of Geoenergy (FORTH/IG) for a successful deep-sea sampling mission! 👏 As part of the X-PRESS project, the team ventured offshore to collect seawater from 2000 meters depth off Rhodes island in Greece using a novel high-pressure sampler—a major technological milestone that allows us to study deep-sea microbial life under native pressure conditions. 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to the ΕΛΙΔΕΚ - Ελληνικό Ίδρυμα Έρευνας και Καινοτομίας for funding this research, and to HCMR - Institute of Oceanography for hosting us aboard their research vessel—your support has been instrumental. 🧪 The team is now heading back to the lab, where the samples will be used in high-pressure experiments to investigate how deep-sea microbes help clean up the oceans from pollutants. These microbes play a vital role in the natural detoxification of the marine environment.
