JB Straubel’s Post

Just a few weeks after launching Redwood Energy, we’re excited to announce an MOU between Redwood Materials and General Motors to accelerate the deployment of grid-scale energy storage systems across the country.    We'll leverage both second-life EV battery packs and new U.S.-built batteries both from GM—delivering fast, flexible, and fully domestic energy solutions. Today, second-life GM packs are already being used to power our Redwood Energy deployment in Nevada, a 12 MW/63 MWh system, the largest second-life battery deployment in the world and the largest microgrid in North America.     We look forward to sharing more around our plans in the coming months as we work together to strengthen America’s energy and manufacturing independence and meet surging power demand.
