Why inquisitiveness is key for engineers at our company

View profile for Joachim Hill-Grannec

Partner at Pelotech a LIFFFT group

We've interviewed hundreds of engineers. Many can write excellent code. But the biggest indicator that someone will truly thrive with us? Inquisitiveness. Finding a technically sharp engineer is (relatively) easy. The engineers who seem to thrive with us are the ones who ask: - Why is this problem worth solving? - How will this impact other developers, end users, or the business? - What happens if we take a different approach? They code well… and they constantly seek context. Of course, that inquisitiveness looks different at different career stages. - For someone 1–2 years in, “broadening” might mean exploring how their work fits into the team’s delivery process. - For a 10-year veteran, we expect questions about organizational strategy, architecture tradeoffs, and long-term business impact. Technical skills get you in the door. But the drive to broaden your perspective and understand the “why,” is what we’re looking for. On that note, if you are an engineer and you resonate with this, shoot me a message – we’re growing and open to meeting new people who fit our culture.
