Thanks to Neil for another great interview. Prof Antony Jameson was my advisor and mentor 2013-15. He gave me an opportunity which has changed my life. I’ll forever be in his debt for that. Happy 90th birthday Antony!
It was truely an honour to speak to Professor Antony Jameson and release this episode on the day of his 90th birthday. I am still in awe of his incredible contributions to #CFD, aeronautics and aircraft design. It is not an exaggeration to say that he has been one of the leading figures over the past 70 years and is to thank for the CFD industry we have today and the standard aerodynamic design process across many industries. 2 hours was most definitely not enough time to cover all his achievements but in this episode we walk through his life story from his early childhood to developing the FLO and SYN codes that enabled CFD to be used for complete aircraft design. We also touch on the story behind the development of the theory and methods for what are industry standard methods such as adjoint-driven aircraft/car design and fundamental numerical methods such as the JST scheme. He has so many achievements it's impossible to list them all but in summary: - 505 academic publications with h-index of 97 with nearly 50,000 citations - Professor positions at Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Princeton, Stanford and now Texas A&M - Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering, 2005, Foreign Associate, National Academy of Engineering, 1997, Fellow of the Royal Society of London, 1995. - Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 2018. - Fellow of The Royal Aeronautical Society, 2004. - Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1991. Prof Jameson has done a fantastic job in curating his lifes work and I'll share the link to that in the comments so you can find links to all his papers, presentations, life works and full list of achievements and honours. I'm not sure I could ever really do justice to his lifes work in a single interview, but I hope it at least covers some of what has made him a true icon and pioner in the CFD and aeronautics community. Happy 90th birthday!!!!
