👏 👏 👏 For Ellen Liebelt's work to unlock housing potential in underutilised sites across the City of Adelaide - through the Adaptive Reuse City Housing Initiative (ARCHI)

Last week I attended an engaging Tech Talk at WGA that stepped through the stages of heritage adaptive reuse, outlined triggers for seismic upgrades, and shared practical methodologies for structural strengthening. Some key takeaways: ✔️ Early collaboration with your structural engineer and certifier is essential ✔️ A skilled, experienced team makes all the difference ✔️ Understanding what triggers upgrade requirements is critical ✔️ 3D surveys and detailed site investigations help de-risk complex heritage projects ✔️ Every project is unique, with its own challenges and tailored solutions Thanks to WGA for hosting such an insightful session — and to Mark Winter and Derrick Ng for sharing their expertise. It’s great to see practitioners coming together to share knowledge. This kind of collaboration is essential to unlocking the potential of adaptive reuse projects. As part of this effort, the City of Adelaide’s Adaptive Reuse City Housing Initiative (ARCHI) is working to unlock dwelling potential in underutilised buildings across the City and North Adelaide — including the conversion of heritage-listed buildings into housing. The ARCHI Incentives Scheme is available to help offset costs associated with consultant fees (feasibility, professional advice, and documentation for Development Approval), as well as construction works.
