Our Senior Project Engineer, Daniel Gray, shares how Keyfix supported The Arc, 225 City Road, a landmark 22-storey development in London. By supplying over 3,000m of NCCTs, 864 Pre-Formed Corners, and 8,500+ Stainless Steel Weeps, we delivered A1 fire compliance and seamless integration with the project’s complex façade. Working alongside our sister company, IG Masonry Support, we provided a fully integrated façade solution. IG's B.O.S.S. A1 units with geo bricks, along with bespoke Welded Masonry Support and Windposts, ensured precise alignment and structural performance across the façade’s challenging design. At Keyfix, we are proud to be champions of best practice, ensuring projects remain safe, compliant and ahead of the curve. #Keyfix #TheArcLondon #FireSafety #ConstructionInnovation

UP LIFT – Raised installation system for timber buildings! One of the greatest challenges in timber construction lies in aligning high-precision timber walls with reinforced concrete kerbs, which often present geometric tolerances incompatible with the accuracy required on site. UP LIFT provides a reliable solution by allowing the kerb to be cast after the walls are installed. This method eliminates alignment issues, ensures proper levelling, and raises the timber structure off the ground for enhanced durability. Key advantages include: •Precision and flexibility: timber walls can be positioned freely on the foundation without being constrained by kerb tolerances. •Durability: raised installation ensures long-term protection of the structure from ground moisture. •Performance under stress: supports transfer compressive loads and resist seismic or wind actions until kerb completion. • Versatility: suitable for timber frame, CLT, and LVL walls; effective also in structural restorability projects. By integrating UP LIFT, builders gain both construction efficiency and long-term structural reliability. 🔨 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝑱𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕, 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕 & 𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕 🔨 In construction, joints play a vital role in ensuring durability, safety, and performance of structures: ✅ 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝑱𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕– Formed when concrete pouring is done in stages. It ensures proper bonding between old and new concrete. ✅ 𝑬𝒙𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕– Allows for movement caused by temperature changes, preventing cracks and structural damage. ✅ 𝑰𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕– Separates concrete from other elements (like columns, walls, or foundations) to avoid stress transfer. Each joint has its own purpose – together, they help structures withstand time, loads and environmental conditions. Smart detailing of joints = stronger and more durable buildings #Construction #CivilEngineering #Concrete #StructuralEngineering #ConstructionManagement #Infrastructure #Engineering

Site Execution Alert: Offset Column Bars – Right vs Wrong! On many sites, I see a common mistake when offsetting column bars between floors. ✅ Right Way: Bars from the column below must stay inside, and bars from the column above must be placed outside (as shown in the image). This ensures proper clear spacing, lap splice, and good confinement by the ties. ❌ Wrong Way (What I Saw on Site): Some crews place the bars above inside and the bars below outside – exactly opposite of what is required. This reduces clear spacing, creates congestion, and can compromise concrete compaction and strength. This is a small detail but very important for the strength and safety of the column. Always double-check bar arrangement before tying and concreting! #Construction #StructuralEngineering #CivilEngineering #SiteExecution #Reinforcement #ColumnDesign #ConcreteConstruction #SiteMistakes #EngineeringTips

The RING90C connector: Shaping the future of timber-steel construction! This breakthrough connector represents a major advancement in hybrid and timber structures, prefabrication, and design for disassembly. It offers a suite of innovative, standardized solutions that bridge the differing tolerances of timber, concrete, and steel empowering faster, more efficient, and more sustainable construction. The bolted version RING90C is ideal for creating connections to steel or concrete in hybrid structures, or for timber-to-timber connections using two connectors. No additional components required, simple bolting with M16: easy to install, easy to remove.. Thanks to its high strength, RING reduces the number of fastenings needed. The connector requires only simple panel processing and can be transported and installed with ease. Installation is streamlined through single-side operations, and its double-inclined screws enable both factory pre-installation and on-site insertion. Concrete Mix for a Solid blinding As engineers, we must build right and deliver quality jobs to our clients. The secret to a solid foundation starts with the right recipe, just like a good dish. The photo shows lean mix concrete, a specific recipe used for blinding. The mix is a low-strength grade with a typical nominal ratio of 1:4:8 or 1:3:6 (cement:sand:gravel by volume). This is much different from the high-strength mix (e.g., M20 grade or 1:1.5:3 ratio) required for structural elements like columns and beams. The reason for using a specific mix for blinding is simple: high compressive strength isn't needed. The goal is to create a stable, clean, and durable surface to build upon. Using a leaner mix is efficient and cost-effective, ensuring the right materials are used for the right purpose. This meticulous planning is essential for building a high-quality, long-lasting structure. 🧱 Concrete Cube Test – Ensuring Strength & Reliability In construction, safety and durability depend on one key factor the compressive strength of concrete. To verify this, engineers perform the Concrete Cube Test. 🔹 Cube Mould Size: 150 × 150 × 150 mm 🔹 Layers Filled: 3 🔹 Tamping per Layer: 35 times 🔹 Tamping Rod Size: 600 mm (length), 16 mm (diameter) The test ensures that the concrete mix meets the required design strength before being used in actual structures. This step is critical for quality assurance and long-term performance of buildings and infrastructure. Strong foundations begin with strong materials. 💪🏗️ #CivilEngineering #Construction #QualityControl #Concrete #StructuralEngineering
