CONSTRUCTION & NATURE Reclamation projects taught me a truth few textbooks mention: you don’t “conquer” nature, you collaborate with it. You can dredge, reclaim, and pour concrete, but tides, currents, and storms don’t obey contracts. I’ve seen projects delayed, even damaged, because teams underestimated the ocean’s rhythm. The sea reminded us who was really in charge. Over time, humility replaced arrogance. We began studying not just engineering charts, but the language of winds and tides. Success came when we worked with nature’s forces, not against them. That shift reshaped how I approach every project, even on land. Foundations, drainage, wind loads - all must respect the natural systems they inhabit. Concrete can resist, but nature always persists.
