There are few industries undergoing greater disruption in the Era of AI than the one I've spent my whole career in: Consulting. So why are some consulting companies growing while others are shrinking? Three reasons for this dichotomy: 1) Some companies are still advising while others are doing. The pace of innovation is scorching and the pressure to do more with less is everywhere. This isn't a convenient time for long-running strategy engagements or 6-month assessments. Consultancies that weave together business experience, technical acumen, and AI-powered delivery methods to innovate at pace on behalf of their clients will continue to rise in the days ahead. 2) Some companies are following the sun while others are getting the job done before sunset. Many large consultancies are overleveraged with enormous delivery centers around the globe, while other, time-zone friendly firms are doing a better job reading the room because, well... they're in the room. Some transformational projects are still ideal for the offshore delivery model -- just not the ones that require active stakeholder involvement during standard business hours. Business People don't get on the phone at 10:30PM for project status updates, and make no mistake, the business has absolutely taken its seat at the table in the #EraOfAI. 3) Some consultancies are naval-gazing while others are out in the market listening to and learning alongside their clients. No doubt AI is massively disruptive for businesses in all industries, but the death knell for any customer service business is inward focus and self-absorption. When I read articles like this one about McKinsey & Co. and hear from distracted friends in large firms about all the reorgs and layoff concerns, I feel blessed to be at a consulting firm that can simply focus on helping its clients harness the strength of AI to empower its people and win market share. Exactly! In AI-driven markets, value comes from bridging the gap between insight and execution alongside the client, not from the sidelines
Urgency is key! Love this post.

1dTeams size may change for handling tasks like running analysis, validating and quantifying data, drafting documents , summarizing interviews, etc. but you will still need experienced consultants with deep industry knowledge, strategic judgment and nuances. Clients will be expecting more with less with smaller analyst-heavy teams and more tech-augmented, outcome-driven models.
